Visitors must hold:

  • Valid travel document.
  • Valid return or onward tickets to their country of origin or residence
  • Sufficient funds to meet the costs of their stay  a minimum of 100US Dollars per night to stay in Mauritius
  • Confirmed booking for accommodation in Mauritius,
  • Eligible to re-enter their country of origin or residence

Issue of visa

Application for visa should be submitted prior to arrival to diplomatic representatives of Mauritius in

Australia (Canberra), Belgium (Brussels), China People’s Rep. (Beijin), Egypt (Cairo), Ethiopia (Addis Ababa), France (Paris), Hong Kong (Kowloon), India (Delhi and Mumbai), Indonesia (Jakarta), Italy (Rome), Japan (Tokyo), Madagascar (Antananarivo), Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Pakistan (Islamabad), Seychelles (Mahe), South Africa (Pretoria), United Kingdom (London), USA (Washington).

To Mauritius Consulates where available.

To Air Mauritius office where there is no diplomatic Consulate representatives.

To Passport and Immigration Office 9-11 Lislet Geoffroy Street, Sterling House, Port Louis

Visa Requirements for Merchant Seaman

  • Must travel on duty and hold letter of Guarantee of Shipping Company.
  • If arriving by air in order to board ship, visa not required, provided the seaman is met at the Airport by the Shipping Agent. If arriving by ship in order to board aircraft, visa not required, provided the seaman is met at the Sea Port by the Shipping Agent.
  • The shipping Agent to inform Immigration Authorities prior to their arrival,
  • If continuing journey to a third country, should comply with Transit Visa requirements.

Passengers arriving without a visa if required may be repatriated to their country of origin or residence at the transporting carrier’s expenses.

    Visa required except for:

  • Citizens of Mauritius
  • Persons who are residents of Mauritius under the Immigration Act
  • The spouse of a citizen of Mauritius,
  • The child under the age of 14 years or step child or lawfully adopted child of persons referred to at (Citizens of Mauritius) and (Persons who are residents of Mauritius under the Immigration Act) above.
  • Holders of Diplomatic Passports other than those issued by the Government of Algeria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria,Yemen, and Afghanistan
  • Crew of a vessel travelling on duty or in transit to join another vessel
  • Holders of Laissez-Passer by the United Nations, SADC or other internationally recognised organisations,
  • Persons who intend to remain in Mauritius only during the stay of a vessel by which they arrive and depart

MAURITIUS ADMISSION RESTRICTIONS

The Government of Mauritius does not recognize passports issued by the following Governments:-

Taiwan,

The homelands of Botsphutatswana, Ciskei, Transkei, Venda or any other homeland existing in the Republic of South Africa,

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

However; holders of such documents may apply for an entry permit and should not undertake any travel without prior authority.
